ADDITION is the skill of putting numbers together - three dollars for a toy and five dollars for a book is three and five is eight; three and five makes eight; three plus five equals eight; 3+5=8.

Using Words
	Learn about the various words that can be substituted in place of either numbers or symbols. Use language such as 'and _ is' or 'plus _ equals' with words or numbers. Count up from a single number. Become familiar and comfortable with the manipulation of numbers written in a word format.

Renaming and Grouping
	Explore and recognise patterns and relationships between and within numbers. Break numbers into their component parts. Re-arrange units, tens, hundreds and thousands. Become familiar and comfortable with numbers.

Vertical Sums
	Practise one of the most effective techniques for solving addition equations. Add between two and four numbers, each ranging from one digit to three, to each other. Become familiar and comfortable with solving addition equations via the use of a vertical layout.
