Using Words

Word Sentences
The ability to use the language of subtraction (examples include less, minus, equals and how many less?) in mathematical equations. This teaches a student the various words and terms that can be substituted for the 'minus' sign in mathematical equations and problems.

This section uses words in sentences to describe the process of subtraction.

Number and Word Sentences
The ability to combine numbers in their numerical form with the various words that are used in the language of subtraction and solve equations containing these two elements. This teaches a student the ability to combine both words and symbols in subtraction equations.

This section uses numbers and symbols in word and figure formats within sentences and sums.

Number Sequence Sentences
The ability to count backwards and still remain in sequence, and how that knowledge is applied to subtraction of numbers. This teaches a student reverse number order, and reinforces how to convert a word problem into mathematical terms to solve it.

This section introduces ordinal numbers in words and figures - first, 1st through to thousandths, 1,000ths.
